11th Century Church Catholic weddings in Florence can be a very intimate experience in this ancient church. Many researchers are of the opinion that the church was built before the year 1000, infact information about it is found in many documents already in the 9th century. In the 13th century the parish church became canonical and its importance wasn't only religious, but also artistic, economical and social; The facade is made of semi- precious stone, found on the spot. The facade, which is linear, has a central portion and two lateral slopes which indicate the three aisles of the church. On the facade there are three doors, a plain mullioned- window and a bell tower which has an an antique structure, but its present height was built in the 19th century.The interior has three aisles divided by three pillars made of semi-precious stone which sustain the four brick arches on each side. |
Above eight windows illuminate the church. On the inside of the facade, above the main entrance, there is a choir placed on two pillars which contains an organ since 1700; in the presbytery there is a choir made of carved wood which belongs to the 18th century; the major altar is made of polychrome marbles and was made in1738.
